As the CDC gives more guidelines to help schools open, I got to wondering about how we could help schools. Here are a few ways we can help your school with social distancing during dismissal.
At the end of the day, there is always a staff member who must go outside to see what order the drivers are in. That person will be seeing many drivers and we want to make sure they are safe.
We are a communication tool that lets the teachers and staff on the inside know who is outside to pick up their students. The teachers can either look at this on their phone to communicate to the students, or they can pull it up on the screen for the students to see their name and their slot number (This is where they will meet their driver and get in their car).
We offer carpool consulting to talk about the best strategies for your school. One thing that we say over and over is to have at least 2 spaces to organize batches before sending them to the "loading zone" to get in their cars. This means that once the students' names are called, they know exactly where to go because it is clearly marked, spaced, and communicated. This keeps social distancing easy to accomplish while managing groups of students.
I know that I can't be the only one who used a megaphone to call out names or numbers for car riders. Using the Pickup app keeps me from yelling, using a megaphone, or walkie-talkie so that I can keep my spit to myself. The students can read their names and their slot numbers and if they pay attention, you really don't have to talk much during dismissal. One of our schools always raved that we were a very quiet dismissal system.
I'm sure there are many more ways for us to help, and I would love to talk with your school. Every school is different and we would love to know how we can help your school best.
